What We Leave Behind screening and discussion at St. Mary's College in California

Salome Chasnoff spends one week in California at St. Mary's College and 17 days in Brazil (Rio and Santarem, PA in the Amazon) with twelve St. Mary's students and two other teachers. Salome directs the students in a multi-media ethnographic study of everyday life in Brazil.

Salome Chasnoff, Charlotte Saenz and Prudence Browne, representing Women's International Information Project (WiiP), are travelling to Chiapas, Mexico to do a 2-week media workshop with the Mayan women artists of FOMMA. This workshop is the first in a 3-year exchange between the two groups. Together we will produce a documentary about their performance work. FOMMA will come to Chicago in October 2002 to present their work at several Chicago-area sites.

Beyondmedia will provide a morning session on media literacy and images of violence in the media to Friends of Battered Women and Their Children's Teen Peace Institute. The Teen Peace Institute is designed to provide leadership/ team building activities, antiviolence workshops and fun for about 30 high school agedstud ents from August 19th through 30th, 02.Beyonmedia 'sworkshop will help set the tone for the rest of the Teen Peace Institute and provide skills necessary for their ongoing work.

Chicago Filmmakers presents Info2Action, an evening of review and discussion on the ability of documentaries to impact social organizing and activism - beyond just preaching to the choir. Join us for an evening of Community Organizing, Social Activism, and Social Documentaries. Chicago Filmmakers will screen excerpts from a range of works made by, about, and for community groups and social activists working for change. Following the screening is a discussion of how organizers and activists can collaborate with media makers.
